PRESS RELEASE 243 #.

 11 MARCH   2008

JOHN HOWARD : LEFT LIBERAL GRIP ON EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION AND LARGE SECTION OF MEDIA

WHERE ARE THEY PROMOTING  PUBLIC EDUCATION JOHN ?

In his Irving Kristol Lecture Sharing Our Common Values , delivered to the American Enterprise Institute, Washington DC  on 5 March 2008 , declared:

'Those who hold to conservative values continue to face a major ideological battle

The left liberal grip on educational institutions and large, though not all, sections of the media remains intense. '

Howard's Claim Untrue

Howard, who noted that he had 'left office' has at last admitted to being a Conservative in the extreme right wing circles of America. Yet he has enjoyed a long political career in Australia in the Liberal Party!

At this point his connection with reality ends. Judged by the promotion and defence of public education in Australia by educational institutions and large sections of the media, Howard's claim is utter rubbish.

Left Liberal Grip a Sad Figment of John Howard's Imagination

If the so-called left liberal grip is evident in Australian educational institutions and the Australian Press DOGS would like to know where they are to be found?

Defending and promoting Public education is a key liberal ideal, but DOGS have long since given up the search for its strong promoters in the Educational Institutions and the Press. The overwhelming majority appear hell bent on getting on the privatisation bandwagon.

What books, articles, speeches, etc. can John Howard produce that have been written by his 'liberal 'academics and editors promoting public education? Does he for example consider the Melbourne Age and the Education and History faculties of Melbourne, Monash, Latrobe and other universities, to be promoters of public education?

You could have fooled the DOGS if they ever were. It is difficult to  discover anybody in the State or Federal power structures who  send their children to the local public school - let alone defend and promote it.

Although Howard has been involved in politics since the 1960s he acknowledges nothing about the cancer in the body politic - the Church enterprises which he has so lavishly and unfairly endowed from the public treasury.

Howard and his Conservatives are attempting to undermine the Australian liberal democratic State.

Public Education and Public Schools Crucial to the survival of he Australian  Liberal Democratic State.

One of the key elements of the liberal state established in Australia was the public education system. The public system was inextricably bound up with the modern 'liberal 'state with a modern 'liberal 'political philosophy that tried to achieve the values of liberty, equality, justice, fraternity, popular consent and obligation for the public good and the general welfare.

Public school education stands for and assists in achieving a viable and just community. Public school education is needed for us to continue to have a viable, democratic, heterogeneous community. Let no one doubt that if there is to be a twilight of the 'liberal

'public school and system that twilight will also be the twilight of the modern 'liberal' democratic state whose values are freedom, equality, justice, fraternity, the working of popular consent and the personal obligation for the public good.

The role of education is so central to the making of a free liberal democratic government that public education is the most important business in civil society and universal accessibility to education is fundamental to success in this endeavour.
