PRESS RELEASE 174#.

16 October 2006

AUSTRALIAN VALUES ;

ANDREW ROBB'S INCOMPLETE LIST

 On September 17, 2006,  Andrew Robb released his Discussion Paper "Australian Citizenship- Much more than a Ceremony". This document contained an incomplete list of Australian values.

His list was as follows :

  • Our respect for the freedom and dignity of the individual.

  • Our support for democracy

  • Our commitment to the rule of law

  • the equality of men and women

  • the spirit of a fair go, and

  • mutual respect and compassion for those in need.

He also said that " an understanding of (the above values) would assist social cohesion and successful integration into the community.

Clearly, Andrew Robb' list is incomplete. It fails to mention freedom of religion, the secular state and separation of church and state. Moreover, it is not surprising that a private school product, Andrew Robb, failed to mention  the chief agent for maximising social cohesion - the secular, open - to - all, public education system.

Andrew Robb should rectify the shortcomings outlined above in his published list and readers should refer to our Press Release 171 for further discussion of this matter.  www.adogs.info/pr171.htm
