FOR THE DEFENCE OF GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS - D.O.G.S.

PRESS RELEASE 225 #.

 30 OCTOBER   2007

 ONE SCHOOL SYSTEM NETWORK,

CANADIAN GROUP SUPPORTS NON-SECTARIAN PUBLIC EDUCATION AND OPPOSES STATE AID TO PRIVATE/RELIGIOUS SCHOOLS :

DOGS has discovered a Canadian group which has similar objectives. This is the One School System Network at http://www. onessn.org .

This organisation opposes aid to religious schools and supports non-sectarian public education.

An organisation has been formed in Ontario, Canada, to promote the views of many Ontarians who believe that the time has come to end the public funding of religious schools in that province. DOGS supporters may be heartened to discover that the aims of this organisation have the support of approximately 70% of those in the Canadian province of Ontario.

A Ten Member Organisation

The One School System Network (OSSN) is a coalition, currently made up of 10 member organisations:

All4One

Campaign  for a Unified Public School System

Centre for Inquiry Ontario

Civil Rights in Public Education, Inc.

Education Equality in Ontario

English Trustees for One School System

French Trustees for One School System

Hindu Conference of Canada

International Campaign Against Sharia Court in canada

Muslim Canadian Congress.

The purpose of the One School System Network ( OSSN) is to co-ordinate the activities of each members group to achieve a one non-sectarian publicly funded school system in Ontario.

Other organisations supporting the OSSN Vision include: The Green Party of Ontario; the Canadian Civil Liberties Association; the Humanist Association of Canada; Oranyu Congregation of Humanistic Judaism; Secular Ontario; Halton-Peel Humanist Community. These organisations are joined by many school boards, politicians and prominent individuals.

OSSN believes that Ontarians need to understand that the continuation and extension of public funding to special groups

1.    Inherently undermines the basic premises of democracy and

2.    That future implications of faith based doctrines in education will serve to balkanise and separate Ontario society.

OSSN has also done research into funding which demonstrates the privileged position of the Roman Catholic schools in Ontario.

DOGS suggest that readers will be well rewarded  by going to the OSSN and related websites.
